Aims

At Harbottle C of E First School, our aim is to give children a Science curriculum which enables them to confidently explore and discover the world around them, in order to develop a deeper understanding of the world in which we live. The exciting, practical, hands-on experiences which we provide them with at school should encourage curiosity and questioning.

Our curriculum is designed to teach science in the context of our local area and the wider world ensuring a continually evolving knowledge and fostering a foundation of core skills which will equip them for an ever changing world. We would like them to take this attitude of enquiry and interest, alongside skills and understanding with them as they move to the Middle school and beyond.

Some topics are designed around the time of year e.g. Living things and their habitats in the summer term, in order to be able to complete in depth local nature studies and to allow for more practical opportunities. We plan thematic learning, linking topics across the curricular subjects, mirroring the importance of science in every aspect of our lives.
